"How Can God Have A Son?"

This past week, the following conversation was overheard.

A Muslim was trying to understand the import behind the Christian celebration of Easter. As he learned more, he spoke of what his faith had taught him: That Jesus was a normal human-being. That Jesus was "just" a prophet. That Mohammed was and is the "true" and "last" prophet.

In a matter-of-fact manner, he uttered the following: "We do not believe that Jesus was the Son of God. How can God have a Son? He's God! Who would He mate with?", etc., etc.

It was difficult to not jump in at this point. However, there is no point in presenting the gnostic point-of-view to those who are bound by nature-religions. Nothing good can come out of such conversations. Confrontation is probably the most likely outcome.

So it will be undertaken here to try and resolve the paradox for our Muslim friend.

First, one must cease to think of God as a human-type figure. The veritable "old man with a beard" who lives in the sky does not exist. God, the Creator, the Divine Architect, the All-In-All has no beginning and no end. Although formless, the All contains the potentiality for all forms. The All has no Creator. The All creates from Itself. The entire visible Universe is an emanation of the All, Who permeates the entire Creation yet simultaneously stands apart from it.

What is a "son"? The common response is that the son is the male offspring of a man and a woman. When the term is used in reference to the Second Aspect of the Trinity, it is referring not to a human offspring, but to an emanation of Energy, a Divine Vibration, sent forth from the All in order to accomplish a particular purpose in Creation. As reflected in humanity, most sons are like their fathers. This reflection mimics the example set by the Divine Father and the Divine Son.

In the current Age, the Son of the Father is called "The Christ". The Christ is not a man but a Divine radiation or vibration. It carries all of the attributes of the Father, as a Son should.

Jesus the human-being, walked the Path of Return while on this earth in order to bring this Divine Energy back to the planet. The churches refer to him as "Jesus Christ", similar to "John Smith" or Anna Jackson". But Christ was never Jesus' last name. The addition of the word "Christ" to the name "Jesus" simply meant that Jesus had accepted this Divine Energy into His microcosm. He was the Christed One.

So, the "Son" of God is not a physical human-being, this is true. But God, the Father of All, does have a "Son", the energy of which permeates the entire Creation. This 'Son" is the only such emanation, hence the title "only-begotten". The All needs no partner to mate with. The All creates from Itself.

Our Muslim friend will wrestle with this question for the remainder of his incarnation. Hopefully, having read the foregoing, you won't have to.

Is fate predetermined? The Hindu's say your thought is according to your karma. Therefore we don't really have a choice if everything comes from thought which is connected to your karma.

I ask this because what I saw on the news about a father walking outside a medical centre with his little boy and an out of control car hit the little boy and killed him. Where is the choice for the little boy? Or was it simply his karma that he should be killed at 3 years old in this manner. Could we please have your thoughts.
Thank you.

Anonymous,

Some things are predetermined, such as when and how one will die, where one is born, who one's parents are, certain people that one will meet up with in life. But the life that is lived while on Earth is a series of autonomous choices. Every second we are making some sort of a decision. Do this or do that? Go here or go there? Act this way or that way? Think about this or think about that? And on and on. To maintain that we have no choice in the direction of our lives would be an error.

Karma represents past debts that have to be repaid. Some past karma is positive and will result in beneficial things during the incarnation. But "the evil that men do lives on", it is said. If we transgressed against someone 10,000 years ago, it may take 10,000 years for just the right circumstances to develop, providing an opportunity for the scales to be balanced.

There's almost nothing one can do about the effects of Karma. It is a Law in this physical realm that all Karma must be balanced on the plane that it was incurred. Karma is the Law of Compensation: the measure of a swing to the left must be countered by a swing of equivalent measure to the right.

Because we are unable to review our own Karma or view the Karma of those around us, we look about and see naught but unexplainable tragedy when, in fact, most of what we see is simply the inexorable working of the Law.

As for that poor 3-year old, it's entirely possible that 10,000 years ago there was another personality in the microcosm who, through some sort of reckless act, killed a three year old child. Maybe a horse or a chariot that was being ridden broke out of control due to the inattention or negligence of the then-personality and a child was killed. The debt was incurred 10,000 years ago, but finally came due and was paid in 2017. We see a poor little 3-year old who didn't deserve to die. The wise know that a debt of some kind is being repaid.

Karma is a soul-thing, not a human-being thing. It is an instruction for the Soul that endeavors to teach the Soul to do right. Human bodies come and go. The form disintegrates, but the soul is immortal and persists...and so does its Karma.

We have full choice and control over what kind of Karma we accumulate in this life. As stated above, there is almost nothing that can be done about our past debts, we will have to bear them cheerfully when payment comes due. But we have all the power in the world to make right choices in the here-and-now, thereby creating better causes and guaranteeing a rich harvest of positive Karma in lifetimes to come.

Be advised that things were not supposed to be this way. Although the Law of Karma is firmly established in the physical realm, it would not have affected Man adversely if Man had learned to control his thoughts and desires ages ago. It was Man himself who set the pendulum in motion via his selfish and thoughtless acts. These debts have accumulated over many lives and will remain a part of the Karma of Man and Mankind until they have been either Repaid or Forgiven.

The Fate of a man is not the same as the Karma of a man. Karma involves correcting an imbalance, reaping what has been sown. Fate involves the future of the Man, what can and will happen to him/her if he makes this or that choice. Fate can be changed or modified, to an extent. Not so with Karma. The debt remains on the books until liquidated.

Watched a video conference on Facebook called "Beyond Karma and Destiny". The main thing I got out of it was you have to have Self Knowledge and Self Observation before anything can change, because the human being operates from the egocentric consciousness and not the spirit-soul (consciousness) I still have a problem in seeing that we return to earth because someone in the distant past ran up a huge karmic debt and the present human being in the microcosm has to pay it off!
